I’m looking at doing a LineX liner, is the UV protection worth the money? How much does it really fade?

How does the competition (Rhino, Reflex etc.) compare?

I went with LineX because most reviews said it wasn’t too hard and it wasn’t too soft. If it’s too hard, it won’t grip your cargo. If it’s too soft, it can tear and separate. I’ve had it for 4 years in my work truck and I’ve only managed to slightly gouge it.

I haven’t noticed any fading but I assume it happens so slow that you can’t tell it’s happening. I don’t remember them upselling the UV protection. There were just two prices: one for below the rails and one for above the rails. Get above the rails if you use your truck for work and do any side-loading. It really helps prevent dings on the top of the rails.

I have LineX in my truck. It’s about 14-15yrs old. It’s faded in the TX sun (surprise), so it’s kinda light black and dull, but 14yrs! I have no idea about UV because I don’t remember that being available back then. I have it over the rails and tailgate top - which I recommend if you actually use your truck and it doesn’t have the bedrail/tailgate plastic caps. Mine has a couple gouges (not through the liner) and one area on top of tailgate that rubbed through (after it was 10+yrs old), but it’s not even worth fixing. No peeling or anything. Motos in and out, yard junk, mulch, tools, furniture, drivetrain parts, lumber, etc over the years.

I had friends that sprayed Rhino, but I didn’t like it as much. It also seemed more slick when wet, but not really sure. Prep is probably the biggest thing. If they prep well, it will last. Besides the obvious scuff and clean, prep to me includes making sure all the tiedowns, drain plugs, tailgate inner panel hardware, etc all get covered/removed/taken care of so you can still access those areas.

Definitely going over the rails. There’s a couple reasons why for me:

No factory protection over the rails and side loading is often easiest.

I got a folding tonneau because the OEM one sucks if you use it often. Now, the OEM drop in liner goes over the rail at the front of the box but not at the sides. The OEM cover still will seal, but the new one won’t.

The thing that bugs me about fading is when the inside will look fresh because of the cover but the rails will look like shit. Tiny, tiny concern, but I like to do anal amounts of homework before mods. Though something usually falls through the cracks anyway...

14 years? No care. I won’t own this thing 14 years. I think.

Smart move on not doing that. Our two 4 wheeled vehicles are a combined 27yrs old and have 410k-ish on them. I mean, they still run well so why change./inner-engineer LOL

*does math...We’ve burned about 11.5-12k gallons of gas in my truck and 10-10.5k in the car. Damn...

If only the rails will be exposed and you’re really worried about fading you could just use armor all on the exposed bits.

professional spray in or DIY? Here in MI you need to pretty damn good with the DIY cause you miss a tiny bit and bed rusts from the inside out. Professional I have had rhino and another off brand and they were good quality
